Mas Ermieyati is PN's candidate for Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker

SHAH ALAM - Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Srikandi deputy chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin is among the individual listed for the position of Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker

Perikatan Nasional (PN) sources said the Masjid Tanah MP was nominated for the position, along with two other prospective candidates from DAP and Barisan Nasional (BN).

Speaking to Sinar, a source said that Mas Ermieyati fulfilled the criteria for the position as she was former deputy prime minister in the minister's department in charge of parliament and law and is well-versed on parliament meeting

The source say Emrieyati fulfilled the criteria for the appointment of the deputy speaker because she had held the position of Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Parliament and Law) as well as having a wide knowledge regarding the Parliament meeting rules.

"Yes, it is true that Mas Emrieyati was nominated by PN for the deputy speaker position. It was also understood that DAP and BN candidates were also nominated for the position. Mas Emrieyati's knowledge and experience in law will make her a suitable candidate

"I think she was among key people worked towards the implementation of the Act preventing MPs to hop parties before the 15th General Election (GE15)," he added.

Guesses on how will become Dewan Rakyat's speaker and deputy speaker were among hot topics discussed by all, following former speaker Tan Sri Azhar Azizan Harun's decision to step down on Dec 19.

It was reported that Gurun Assemblyman Datuk Johari Abdul that his name is among the candidates that are proposed as the Dewan Rakyat Speaker.

Former de facto law minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and former Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof were also rumoured to be named as the government’s proposed names for the role.
