KUALA LUMPUR - The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) today launched its Young Brigade (Briged Muda MAIWP - BMM) as an initiative to nurture the value of togetherness between MAIWP, community and Asnaf (zakat recipients) through volunteers.

Pusat Pungutan Zakat Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (PPZ-MAIWP) chairman Tan Sri Dr. Abdul Aziz Rahman said to date, a total of 210 individuals have registered as BMM volunteers.

They comprise youths from all levels of community and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) as well as students from institutions of higher learning.

"The management has also approved an allocation of RM162,500 for the implementation of BMM that would include the cost of special clothes and attendance token costs for volunteers.

"MAIWP is targetting participation of up to 1,000 BMM volunteers in the future,” he told reporters after launching the BMM and a Gotong-Royong Perdana at the Darul Kifayah complex here.

Also present were MAIWP deputy chief executive officer (management) Mohd Fauzi Abidin, Zakat Distribution Division manager and Darul Kifayah Board Member Ahmad Talmizi Yahaya.

Abdul Aziz said the establishment of BMM was not only to provide an opportunity for brigade members to expose themselves to volunteerism but also to provide exposure for youths to help them improve their careers and life.

"This volunteer group is one medium of interaction to create a cooperation network and communication between MAIWP recipients,” he said.

He also said the premier gotong-royong was a start to mobilise the BMM volunteers to interact with society.
