10 villages in Kelantan affected by floods, 2,014 victims evacuated

RANTAU PANJANG - Floods hit a total of 10 villages here while victims who have been evacuated increased to 2,014 on Wednesday.

Among the villages involved were Tersang, Jalang Kampung Tersang, Bendang Parol, Serongga, Padang Licin, Putat Tujuh, Tasek Bakong, Jeram Perdah, Kubang Pak Hitam and Sapi.

Pasir Mas Disaster Management Secretariat (PA) Capt. Mohd Arif Mohd Zain said there were four roads affected by floods namely Jalan Pengkalan Rakit - Batu Karang and Jalan Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Gual Tok Deh (closed for all vehicles), while Jalan Tok Dek - Gual Periok and Jalan Panglima Bayu - Rantau Panjang - Jeram Perdah (closed for light vehicles).

The waters in Sungai Golok was still at the warning level, however, it was showing a subsiding trend 9.25 metres as of 10am, he said.

"All 634 families involved in the floods were placed in seven temporary evacuation centres (PPS),"Mohd Arif told Sinar Harian.

He said there were 712 victims at the SK Tok Deh PPS, 157 at Putat Tujoh, SK Kubang Kual (251), SK Gual Periok (544), Padang Licin (69), SK Sri Kiambang (234) and Kedai Tanjong (47).

He said even though it was cloudy, residents living in low-lying areas are reminded to always be prepared for any eventuality.
