KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 (Bernama) -- Popular anime song artist Suzuki Konomi is set to perform in Malaysia this Saturday, aimed at promoting Japanese culture here as part of 40th anniversary celebration of Malaysia's Look East Policy (LEP).

The Japan Foundation (JF) said the concert which will be held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here starting 7pm will be an opportunity for the singer, who won the All-Japan Anime Song Grand Prix, to convey the appeal of anime songs, a unique aspect of Japanese culture, through live singing.

"Suzuki Konomi, who debuted as a singer at the age of 15 in 2012, has wowed fans not only in Japan but all over the world with her compelling singing talent and beautiful voice, while collaborating with various anime works and releasing numerous anime songs.

"This year marks her tenth anniversary of her debut, and her performance in Malaysia will serve as a highlight of the 40th anniversary of the LEP," said JF, the organiser of the concert in a statement.

The concert co-organised with the cooperation of Comic Fiesta, one of Southeast Asia’s largest animation, comic, and game events and Embassy of Japan in Malaysia is being held for the first time in three years.

Born on Nov 5, 1996, in Osaka Prefecture, Suzuki won the Fifth All-Japan Anime Song Grand Prix in 2011 and debuted at the age of 15 with "CHOIR JAIL" in the following year.

The concert is scheduled to be streamed via "STAGE BEYOND BORDERS-Selection of Japanese

Performances,” JF’s online streaming project for stage performances, starting in spring of 2023, to provide an opportunity for people around the world who were unable to attend in person to experience the day’s excitement.

"We hope that the concert will help to further boost exchanges between Malaysia and Japan and contribute to stronger ties between the two countries," it added.
