TAWAU - A woman was robbed before her throat slit in front of an abandoned building in Kampung Titingan, here, on Thursday.

The incident was believed to have occured around 7 pm.

The victim was seen lying in a pool of blood, while a child believed to be her son was crying by her side.

Tawau District Police Deputy Chief Superintendent Champin Piuh said that the police headquarters (IPD) had received a call on the incident at 7.26 pm.

"The initial investigations found that the victim was a 30-year-old non-local woman with her one-year-old child, believed on their way to her sister's house 300 meters away in Kampung Titingan.

"It is believed that the woman was attacked at dark alley on route, where she was robbed off her necklace and earrings. She had put up a fight which led to her death," he told Sinar Harian on Thursday.

He also said the victim had sustained a cut on her neck which is caused by a sharp object.

"The cut on the victim's neck is believed to be caused by a knife or sharp object, however, investigations are still ongoing, including locating the suspect in this incident.

"People who have information related to this incident can inform the Tawau IPD operations room for further action," he said

Champin said the case was investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
