Landslide victims and their families to receive fund from gov : PM Anwar

HULU SELANGOR- Financial aid will be distributed to the bereaved families and the victims, involved in the Batang Kali landslide tragedy here today.

In saying this, Prime Minister Datum Seri Anwar Ibrahim said families of victims will receive RM10,000 whilst RM1,000 will be given to the affected victims in the tragedy.

“I’m taking this opportunity to express my sympathies to the affected families. Be assured that search and rescue (SAR) operations will continue.

“We will also distribute funds to affected victims and families. This will be coordinated under Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari,” he said.

The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) and Prime Minister's Office (PMO) will work alongside with the Selangor state government to ease the channeling of aid to the victims and their families.

Anwar arrived the tragedy site and were immediately briefed on the situation by the authorities here.

Previously, media had reported that the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department had received a distress call by 2.24am, and they were arrived at the location by 3 am.

As of tonight, 21 victims had died at the campsite and 17 more are still missing.

The premier also extended his gratitude to the authorities who were involved in the search and rescue operation, for risking their safety to find and save the victims.
