Vote of confidence: Don't waste time influencing BN MPs

SHAH ALAM - The opposition is advised not to waste time incfluencing Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs to oppose the government's motion in the Dewan Rakyat, but instead focus on working for the people.

Tampin MP Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa said that the actions of Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders who tried to influence the position of the party's MPs were inappropriate and needed to be stopped.

"The general election (GE) is over. So everything is okay, it's clear. The government is already in place. So just focus and wait for another five years if you want to fight.

"There is no need to waste time, focus on helping the people. It doesn't matter whether we are the government or the opposition that has been elected by the voters. So, we just focus," he told Sinar Harian on Sunday.

He said this when asked to comment on the statement of the PN Youth Leader Ahmad Fadhli Shaari who suggested any BN/Umno parliamentarian who still has the heart and principles not to take shelter under the government led by Pakatan Harapan (PH) to oppose the government's motion in Parliament tomorrow.

Fadhli said if they opposed, PN was ready to negotiate and offer a logo if seats were vacant and by-elections took place.

Commenting further, Mohd Isam stressed that it was impossible for BN/Umno MPs to oppose the government's motion in Parliament.

"I think the Umno/BN MPs have accepted the party's decision as it is. So, there will be no opposition.

"We ourselves already have our commitment to the party, our commitment to take care of the community," he said.

The first Dewan Rakyat session under the Unity Government would take place on Monday with the main agenda, among other things, to witness the presentation of a motion of confidence for the legitimacy of the appointment of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the 10th Prime Minister.

The vote of confidence motion aims to prove that Anwar, who took the oath of office on November 24, has the support of members of Parliament to lead the new government after the results of the 15th General Election (GE15) saw no party or political coalition get a simple majority.
