Jakel's owner stays calm despite losses over hundreds millions of ringgit

The fire occurred when curtains of the store which was opened today, caught on fire, spreading quickly to the next building.
Jakel's chief operating officer Datuk Mohamed Nizam Mohamed Jakel said he received a call at about 6.45 am and was still at his residence in Kuala Lumpur before being informed that his shop was caught on fire.
"My sister and I rushed to Shah Alam, and as soon as we arrived at the location, we saw that the building was badly damaged, and we did not have time to save anything.
"We accept God's will because everything happens for a reason, no one knows 'His' plans, so I accept what has happned and will stay calm," he told Sinar Harian when met at the location on Sunday.
Jakel's workers brought out the items that had been saved.
In the meantime, Mohamed Nizam said he was grateful because no one was injured in the fire which engulfed the building rapidly.
He said they were also thankful to the Fire and Rescue Department that they had managed to put off the fire before the fire spread to another shop next to Jakel.
"We still haven't been able to estimate the losses incurred, but this time the losses are huge as items all five levels of the shop is completely destroyed.
"Jakel Shah Alam is operated by 500 employees and we guarantee that the plight of the workers will be taken care of and they will also receive wages as usual even though the clothing store is destroyed," he said.
Meanwhile, Selangor State Fire and Rescue Department Director Datuk Norazam Khamis said the fire department received an emergency call at 7.19 am.
According to him, a total of seven Fire and Rescue Stations (BBP) from Shah Alam, Kota Anggerik, Subang, Kota Raja, Damansara, Sungai Pinang and Puchong were mobilised to the scene of the incident.
"A total of 38 officers and members from seven BBP then went to the scene of the incident," he said in a statement, and extinguishing works were still being carried out as of noon on Sunday.
