SHAH ALAM - Fake kidnapping scams have become a disturbing trend and tactic used by scammers in Malaysia.

Recently, Hafiza Hassan took to TikTok to raise awareness about a phone scam he encountered, which involved a fake kidnapping threat.

In a video lasting 2 minutes and 26 seconds, the suspect in the video demanded a ransom of RM50,000 from the victim and discussed the payment method.

The audio in the background featured sounds of struggle, crying, and screaming, repeatedly intensifying whenever the suspect raised his voice.

"Pay the ransom if you want your child to be safe. Prepare RM50,000," the suspect instructed the victim.

Despite the alarming situation, the victim remained composed and repeatedly asked for his child's name, who was supposedly being held captive by the alleged kidnapper.

"What is my child's name? Tell me the child's name first," the victim calmly responded to the scammer.

However, the scammer failed to answer the question and changed the subject, realising that his attempt to deceive the victim had failed.
