KUALA LUMPUR - The question of whether the positions of Umno President and Deputy President will be contested in the next party election remains a mystery.

Umno secretary general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan had purposely avoided to answer the question when asked by the media.

"I would like to inform you that the Umno general assembly is next week.

“This answer is different, it's on purpose. I don't want to answer that," he said at a press conference about the general assembly at Menara Datuk Onn here on Tuesday.

Ahmad Maslan also said during the press conference that the main focus should be on the general assembly next week.

“I don't want to get caught up with questions like that, I want to focus on the general assembly.

“This time, more representatives and observers are coming.

“Even though we lost (in the 15th General Election) and won only 30 seats, it does not necessarily mean that attendance is getting smaller,” he said.

In the meantime, the Pontian Parliament member also informed that the Umno Supreme Working Council (MKT) monthly meeting would take place on Jan 5 and all issues regarding party selection would likely be discussed.

"The election will be discussed on Jan 5 and we have another special MKT meeting on Jan 12, but there are a few things that need to be discussed this Thursday," he explained.
