SHAH ALAM - Umno needs to offer a comprehensive economic agenda for the Malays and Malaysians to ensure that the party remains relevant to voters.

Umno deputy youth chief Shahril Hamdan claimed that Umno is now no longer able to collect votes from staunch conservative Malay voters who will vote solely for their Malay rights.

Therefore, he said Umno must be a Malay party that has ideas to inspire all groups of non-Malays to attract voters.

"If we hope they will support us because the Malay heritage, we have a history, we have an identity as a Malay party, it will not be possible anymore.

"Without a new agenda and vision, we have become a sandwich, the Malays who go there (Perikatan Nasional) are not the Malays who go there (Pakatan Harapan)..where is Umno?," he said in a video posted on Facebook on Thursday.

Shahril explained that in the 15th General Election (GE15) the Malay majority areas or large majority Malay areas were no longer Umno strongholds.

Of the 63 parliamentary seats that have more than 80 percent of Malays, BN only won nine seats and the rest were won by PN.

"There are 28 parliaments that have 70 to 80 per cent Malays and BN only won three while for under 50 percent Malays that means mixed seats, empty (lost).

"It means that seats with many Malays we lost to PN, seats with many non-Malays we lost to PH.

"The implication is that it will be difficult for Umno to get Malay votes simply because Umno is a Malay party," he said.
