KOTA BHARU - Thai marriage agents have taken the opportunity to promote their services and various marriage packages online, after the recent admission by local film director Syamsul Yusof that he married his second wife actress Ira Kazar there.

Checks by Sinar Harian on social media revealed that most of the agents are using the controversial issue as a way to attract the attention of those who wish to practice polygamy.

An agent who refused to be named said, among the packages offered is where the marriage solemnization ceremony can be done in a day.

" A person can get married in the morning and can return home in the evening. These packages are not only cost effective but considered the most ' safe' as it cannot be detected by the first wife," he told Sinar Harian when contacted.

He explained that the service cost RM2,000 which included payment to the Islamic religious department in Narathiwat, transportation, lunch and other miscellaneous costs.

He explained that the next package was suitable for men who usually travel or go abroad to work. " This is the three days two nights package, this package is also considered ' safe' as the wives think the husband is only away for work.

" This package cost RM3,500 which includes the marriage solemnization in Narathiwat and then the marriage registration at the Songkhla consulate."

The most expensive package offered is the get married and travel package, where the couple involved can choose to go on a holiday at selected destinations in Thailand, after they are married.

He stressed that all the marriages solemnization ceremonies here were valid and in accordance with syariah laws. " The marriage documentation here is accepted by the Malaysian government," he said.
