SHAH ALAM - Driving institutes are advised to reduce the period and lower the fee to get a full B license for high powered motorcycles.

Malaysian Motor Adventure Club (Adventure Bikerz Club) admit that there are still high-powered motorcycle riders above 250cc who do not have a full B license.

Its chairman, Mohamad Fuzi Abu Bakar said the reasons given were the high cost and having to wait for a long time to take the test at the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

"The queue to take the test is too long. Many have time constraints due to work. In the end, they decide not to take the license and use trainee driving license (L) for a longer period of time," he told Sinar.

Fuzi said the fees for training at the driving institute and taking the test up to thousands of ringgit are also one of the reasons.

"Some say that even getting an L license is more than RM700 while a full class B license costs RM1,300," he said.

Fuzi however said that the matter should not be used as an excuse because they can afford high-powered motorcycles of up to RM200,000.

"The price of the cheapest high-powered motorcycle is RM38,000 to RM200,000, the cheapest second-hand ones start from RM20,000 to RM100,000," he added.

Those who join the associatio need to get a full B license and comply with road laws, Fuzi said.

"We have 200 members and they have to fill in a google form stating the type of motorcycle, the engine capacity and the owner must have a full B license," he explained.

Most of those who took the full B license were used to riding high-powered motorcycles before taking the test at the driving institute.

Finance and Administration Manager of the Kuala Lumpur Driving Institute (IMKL), Harmain Shah Malek Ibrahim said, however, most would give an excuse of not having time to get a full license.

"Most of them are professionals and entrepreneurs who are bound by time.

"For them, it's a burden to go back to driving school and classes.

"They think that only with practical training will they improve the skill of riding the high-powered motorcycle," he told Sinar.

According to Harmain, there are also individuals who take the full B license test with only basic skills of riding motorcycles under 250cc.

The founder of Kingz Motorcycle Group, Azulhairi Berkhanuddin said the long waiting period for the test date caused most riders to decide not to attend driving classes.

He said most high-powered motorcycle riders are professionals who are always busy with essential tasks or lazy to take up the learning process which takes up 16 hours.

"Some have to wait up to two months to get the license.

"Reduce the period of time to get the license so that more motorcyclers attend classes. If within one to two weeks of studying, they know the basics, they should be able to take the test the following week," he told Sinar.
