KOTA KINABALU - Tanjung Keramat assemblyman Datuk Shahelmey Yahya has rubbished claims that he and four other Barisan Nasional assemblymen were ready to establish a new party.

He refuted news reports that the five Umno assemblymen had announced to form a new party if Sabah Umno expells them for not pulling support for Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, adding that report has exaggerated.

The report, he said was released without his knowledge and that of four other BN assemblymen.

"I vehemently deny this report and have never issued any statement referring to the establishment of a new party or related to it.

"This statement was published without our (five Umno assemblymen's) knowledge and it is also seen as malicious," he said in a statement on Monday.

The Putatan MP insisted that their position remained not support the act of overthrowing the existing government.

"As we emphasized before, we five Umno assemblymen have set a stand not to support the act of overthrowing the existing government and are ready to face any action from the party," he said.

Previously, some news reports suggested that the five Umno assemblymen would form a new party after refusing to bow to the will of the state BN leadership which withdrew the support towards Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Apart from Shahelmey, the other four BN assemblymen are Datuk Dr Yusuf Yacob (Sindumin), Datuk Jasnih Daya (Pantai Dalit), Datuk Arshad Bistari (Tempasuk) and Datuk James Ratib (Sugut).
