Zahid is ready to fight – Khairy
SHAH ALAM - Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin says party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is ready to face any challengers for the top position in the party election.
This was after Zahid told him that he is 'ready to fight' in the upcoming party election.
"He is brave, I salute him.
"This means that if there are any intention to kill democracy in Umno, this goes against the president himself.
"Let's be brave. Open the democratic space for Umno and let all positions be contested,” he said.
In a video Khairy posted on his official TikTok account, Zahid was seen greeting the delegates at the general assembly today.
When he approached Khairy, Zahid shook his hand and said "Ready to fight".
Earlier today, the former Rembau MP believes the action of more than 100 Umno Division Leaders who unanimously rejected the president and deputy president posts to be contested should be stopped.
Describing it as 'madness', Khairy opined that the Umno President was a fighter who would fearlessly face his competitors.
Previously, it was reported that a total of 140 Umno Divisional Leaders unanimously did not want the positions of president and deputy president of the party to be contested in the upcoming election.
Wangsa Maju Umno Chief Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Shafie Abdullah said they agreed to ask Zahid to consider the matter because Umno needed to be strengthened ahead of the upcoming state elections.
Khairy had previously signalled that he would compete against Zahid's position as president.
