SHAH ALAM – Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi revealing the details of 10 Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs including those from Umno signing statutory declaration (SD) supporting Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasin’s appointment may eventually come back to bite him.

Political analyst Dr Ahmad Atory Hussain said the revelation might had been made due to his ‘fear’ of contesting for the party’s presidential post.

He stated the disclosure would skew perception towards Zahid as he willingly conspired with PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and cooperated with DAP when Umno stood firmly to its ‘No Anwar, No DAP’ principle.

“Why mention the 10 names when he himself violated Umno General Assembly (PAU) and the Supreme Council’s regulations.

“I believe the disclosure makes no difference since the members are aware of the names mentioned.

“They are not ordinary members but MPs. Loyal Umno members know their leaders’ behavior.

“Maybe Zahid’s action was to gain support to exempt President and Deputy President positions from being contested but the grassroots are watching him.

“They are waiting for people’s reaction during the state election. Will other Umno members agree with such relationship between Umno and DAP?” he said.

The revelation was made during the special president’s address held privately in conjunction with PAU at the World Trade Centre (WTC) Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday.

Atory said the solidarity of 140 Umno Divisional Leaders to not contest for President in Umno General Assembly elections in May, was also undemocratic.

“The members cannot be ‘chained’. How can a party prevent key positions from being contested, it violates the party’s constitution,” he said.
