KUALA LUMPUR - "Ghost voters" were brought in to pass a motion so that Umno's top two posts will not be contested in the upcoming polls, says former Umno youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

In a video recording, Khairy claimed that he was informed that the tagging or marking on designated seats for representatives had been removed in Dewan Merdeka.

Therefore, it will be easy for people from outside to come and vote for the eighth motion, which will happen this evening.

"So this evening, there will be a vote on the motion, and it will likely be passed.

"In fact, some of the tags on the seats in the Dewan Merdeka that were meant for divisional representatives had been removed so that 'imported' representatives could be brought in to cheer and pass the motion. So this would enable the posts of president and deputy president not to be contested.

"I'm asking the representatives in the hall not to let this motion pass, especially the no-contest motion for the party's top two positions.

"We must let division representatives choose the next party leaders on their own," he said in a video posted on his TikTok page on Saturday.

On Friday, Umno Negeri Sembilan representative Mohd Shukri Samsudin submitted an extra motion to ensure that the party’s president and deputy will not be up for election in the next party poll.

The motion received support from the Terengganu, Selangor, Penang, and Umno Wanita representatives.

During the debate on the president's policy speech, some delegates criticised the representatives' actions, which brought up the motion.

On Saturday morning, Kuala Lumpur representative Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Mohd Rafique said that if the president and deputy president positions are not contested in the next election, voters will have a negative perception towards Umno.

He said that the party should decide after a thorough analysis in light of this new information.
