GEORGETOWN - Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) sees June as the best time to hold the state election (PRN).

Its chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the state's PH leaders who met last Sunday agreed that the month was the best because of the short period of time to dissolve the State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

"We (PH Penang) have our own recommendations and June is the best time.

"Actually we can announce the PRN date earlier, maybe in January or February that we will hold the PRN in June and not in the near future, so that all parties are ready," he said when met after the 2023 Public Service Members' Assembly at Dewan Sri Pinang, here on Tuesday.

Chow was commenting on Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun's statement that the state assembly was expected to be dissolved in May to make way for PRN.

Aminuddin, who is also PKR vice-president said it was based on informal discussions with the Menteri Besar and Chief Ministers in the six states concerned before attending the recent Council of Rulers.

The six states that will have PRN were Selangor, Penang, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

Meanwhile, Chow who is also Penang Chief Minister also hinted that PRN might be held either in May or June.

Asked whether the meeting last Sunday also involved Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders to reflect cooperation at the federal level, Chow said there has yet to be a relationship between Penang PH and BN at the state level.

"The relationship is only at the federal level.

"PH Penang has not yet received any instructions from the national leadership (regarding cooperation at the state level)," he said.
