MELAKA - The Melaka state government has stressed that it will not reorganise its state executive councillors (exco) line up to include any state assemblymen from Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the near future.

Its Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said this was due to the fact that the situation in Melaka was different compared to other states such as Perak or Pahang.

"The situation in Perak and Pahang was different as no party had a simple majority to form the state government, therefore they had to form a coalition" he said.

Sulaiman said with Umno and Barisan Nasional's (BN)'s major success in the 2021 state elections, where both parties had managed to secure 21 seats out of 28 seats, he did not want to make any rash decisions especially not ahead of the Johor state government.

Sulaiman explained that the Johor state administration was similar to Melaka in terms of Umno and BN had also managed to secure a majority of seats in the past state elections.

Sulaiman said he had informed all state assemblymen that were involved in the formation of the unity government.

"There will be no reshuffling or reorganising of the state exco line up, when the unity government had been formed at the federal level, several assemblymen came to see me

" I have informed and explained to them that the situation is entirely different with the 15th General Elections, do not take Perak and Pahang as an example as there no party had the majority to form the state government.

" The situation here is different and I cannot go ahead of the Johor state government in this matter. What will they say or think, if I suddenly use my power to elect different state exco's will other states be doing the same thing," he questioned

Sulaiman was being interviewed by Sinar Harian Group Editor-in-Chief, Zamri Rambli for a Sunday Interview Segment at his office in Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh on Tuesday.

Sulaiman said he considered all assemblymen who were not from BN as the state government's strategic partners and not the opposition.

He stressed this was because all of them had the same mission of developing Melaka besides being the representatives that were given the mandate by the people in their specific areas.

“I always remind the people that the assemblymen who are not from Umno and BN are not the opposition here but strategic partners in the state government

“I have always requested for state government officers to respond to any requests made by all asssmblymen if it involves the needs of the people in this state," he said.
