SHAH ALAM - Election watchdog Bersih hopes the Malaysia Madani concept would not remain another empty slogan like former prime ministers’ visions and slogans.

The previous prime ministers had launched “Bersih, Cekap, Amanah”, “Vision 2020”, “Islam Hadhari”, “1Malaysia”, “Malaysia Baru”, “Malaysia Prihatin” and “Keluarga Malaysia" while the present Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had presented his vision of nation-rebuilding: Malaysia Madani, with six values: sustainability, prosperity, innovation, respect, trust and compassion.

In a statement, the coalition had lined up a list of issues for Malaysia Madani to overcome, from vote buying in the name of charity as a result of an inconsistent enforcement of the Election Offence Act, to voters feeling tired with elections as they were not informed in advance of election dates.

Noting that it is not at all pessimistic with Malaysia Madani, Bersih said there is potential to transform Malaysia on two conditions; respect and trust between political parties followed by innovation and nstitutional reforms.

It said Bersih is ready to extend a helping hand in Anwar's cross-party, cross-sector, cross-state national conversation with a concrete agenda to operationalise his Malaysia Madani concept.
