Prices of raw ingredients up, hard to lower food prices, says Presma

SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Entrepreneurs Association (Presma) says prices of food will remain the same due to hike in raw materials, rent, basic needs.

Its president Datuk Jawahar Ali Taib Khan said due to that they could not reduce prices of food.

“Prices of eggs, chicken and vegetables remain the same since pandemic,” he said to Sinar.

He said the government need to ensure raw ingredients were sold at cheaper price.

“The ministry should also discuss with suppliers as well as wholesalers to overcome the issue,” he added.

He said restaurants registered with the association remained with the concept of giving clean, good and reasonably priced food to the lower and middle income group.

Jawahar further said customers have a right to choose restaurants that offer a cheaper price by comparison.

“They can avoid premises that fail to reduce prices.

“It is impossible to gain ingredients at a lower price. For example, prices of fish are frequently fluctuating," he said, adding that the scenario is the same for dried chilies.

Khairul said he hoped the government will look at ways to stabilise price of raw ingredients.
