Four arrested over inmate’s death at rehab centre

IPOH - Three employees and a trainee at Perlop Narcotics Rehabilitation Center (Puspen), Sungai Siput were arrested to assist with investigation into an inmate’s death at the centre, last Tuesday.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said that all of them, aged between 30 and 38, were remanded for seven days starting yesterday (Thursday).

He said, in the 12.55pm incident, police received information about the death of the 50-year-old trainee.

"Initial investigation found injuries on the victim's body.

"The victim who was taken to Hospital Sungai Siput was referred to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) Ipoh for post-mortem purposes," he said in a statement here today.

Results of the autopsy confirmed that the victim's injuries were due to being hit by a blunt object.

"The case is classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he stated.

"The public is advised to not share inauthentic information or make any speculations that would interfere with the investigation," he said.
