SHAH ALAM - Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says the intelligence of its party members over the no-contest motion for the two top posts should not be insulted.

In a Fireside Chat with Sinar Daily, the former prime minister also spoke on Umno's top-two leaders surprised reaction towards unanimous approval of no-contest motion.

He agreed that the reaction was insulting since the motion was tabled by a delegate from the Rembau division, the very same division the party's deputy president is from.

On Jan 13, Umno information chief Isham Jalil confirmed that there was a motion for the top two posts to be uncontested in the party election, which has to be held by May 19.

Isham said the motion was tabled by a Negeri Sembilan delegate and was supported by Terengganu, Selangor, Penang, Kedah and Wanita delegates.
