SHAH ALAM - Government and NGOs worldwide are urged to provide financial and technical aid to Turkiye and Syria that was hit by an earthquake on Monday.

Umno Ulamak Council in a statement urged the Malaysian government, NGOs and Malaysians to perform their duty toward fellow Muslims.

“We offer our condolences to the government and people of Turkiye and Syria involved in the earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Ritcher scale earlier this morning claiming more than 500 lives.

“The Ulamak Council urges the Malaysian government, NGOs and the people to perform their responsibilities for their fellow brothers and sisters.

“It will be done by handing humanitarian aid as well as general contributions to victims affected,” it said on Monday.

Hundreds have been reported dead while thousand others are injured after strong earthquake hit south Turkiye while 100 individuals in Syria were reported dead and hundred others injured.

The Turkiye Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (Afad) said the earthquake occured at 4.17am (1.17am GMT) local time and was centred in the Pazarcik district, Kahramanmaras province.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of seven kilometres, followed by two aftershocks that hit the Gaziantep region.
