SHAH ALAM - Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan believes there is a selective allegation in regard to the freezing of the party’s account by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Wan Saiful, also the Gelugor MP, questioned if the investigation was fair and why other parties perceived as corrupt were not investigated.

"If we want to eliminate money politics, and that is our goal, all parties need to be investigated fairly.

"So, what is happening now seems to be a selective investigation into Bersatu. Those who enter to compete with dozens of parties investigate them all.

"It's quite funny when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says there is no political interference from the government," he told Sinar Premium on Wednesday.

He said this after a meeting with Rasuah Busters team at the Karangkraf Complex to discuss the re-establishment of the All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia (APPGM).

Also present were Rasuah Busters core team led by Shah Hakim Zain; DAP representative Khoo Poay Tiong (Kota Melaka MP), Parti Amanah Negara representative Azli Yusof (Shah Alam MP) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat representative Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh (Ledang MP).

Following that, Wan Saiful said several reports had been filed by Bersatu to the MACC so that the same investigation could be carried out to the government parties.

"With this report filed, we hope that the investigation is conducted fairly and immediately for the government parties, Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN)," he said.

Meanwhile, on the MACC's investigation into Bersatu's account, Wan Saiful said, his side would give full cooperation to the commission.

Until now, he said the MACC had summoned several party leaders and party officials.

"I'm not sure how many, I was also one of the individuals summoned. We prepared all the necessary documents, and the process went smoothly.

“The MACC carried out its duties fairly and in accordance with all aspects of the law," he said.

Sinar Harian previously reported that Bersatu's account was frozen a day after the party disclosed its account statement.

The freezing was confirmed by MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

He said the party's account has been frozen for the past few weeks to facilitate investigations under the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act.
