Towards a 'cleaner' Malaysia with All-Party Parliamentary Group

SHAH ALAM - Creating a civilised country that is free from corruption requires cooperation from all including political parties in this country.

Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong said the establishment of the All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia (APPGM) which was previously implemented until the 15th General Election (GE15) needed to be re-established for the sake of freeing Malaysia from the issues of corruption and misconduct.

Khoo, who is also DAP National Organisation Deputy Secretary said, efforts from all parties were needed to succeed including the full support of the political party leaders who previously had different understanding and ideologies.

He said the APPGM supported by civil society was able to realise the government’s desire to cultivate anti-corruption values ​​and character in the community, and refusal of any misconduct which harmed the country.

“APPGM is a good movement because it brings a good agenda to make the country prosperous from bad practices, especially corruption.

“It is an advantage when this group which involves almost all parties, gets support from both government and opposition.

“In our efforts (the government) to make many transformations to the country, we need to get support from all parties including politicians even though they have different views prior to this,” he told Sinar Premium on Wednesday.

He said this when met by reporters after the discussion between the APPGM Special Select Committee with Rasuah Busters team at the Karangkraf Complex, here.

Also present were Rasuah Busters core team representative Shah Hakim Zayn, representative from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan, representative from Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), Azli Yusof and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) representative Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh.

Meanwhile, Khoo said the implementation of APPGM was a good initiative because it opened space for all parties for discussion sessions and provide useful input to develop a clean country.

He said this was a good development brought by APPGM to develop a country free from corruption and abuse of power.

“Matters involving anti-corruption and integrity require necessary support from all parties regardless of political affiliation.

“With the existence of APPGM, it can set aside the agenda party politics and focus on the interests of the people and country,” he said.

Meanwhile, Johor State Leadership Council Deputy Chairman Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said every MP was responsible to enact laws and ensure the well-being of the country including reforming institutions in order to be better and find solutions to the issue of corruption.

Syed Ibrahim, who is also Ledang MP said people representatives were responsible as trust was given by the people and the need to implement the principle of freedom although it was mandatory to comply with the party’s principles.
