SHAH ALAM - Tennis prodigy Rio Mikaela Zahri has emerged as champion in the TennisMalaysia Junior Tour 2023.

The recognition was granted by the Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia (LTAM) following her success in the under-10 category.

She was crowned as the champion in the tournament which was held at the National Tennis Centre, Kuala Lumpur between Feb 8 to Feb 12.

The news was shared by her father personal trainer and nutritionist Kevin Zahri.

He said Mikaela currently ranked number one in Malaysia for the girls category and has remained undefeated this year.

“Her road to victory was marked by impressive performances in both the semi-final and the final.

“In the semi-final, she defeated her opponent with a commanding score of 4:0-4:0, setting the stage for a thrilling final and in the final, Mikaela once again demonstrated her skill and determination, emerging as the champion with a score of 4:0-4:1,” he told Sinar Daily.

He said Mikaela had been previously been accepted to the Rafa Nadal Academy and will return to Spain, next month for another training camp and competition.

On top of her training at the academy, Kevin said Mikaela also trained for and represented the Porto Cristo Tennis Club in Mallorca, Spain for local team competitions this year.

“We (Mikaela’s parents) are equally thrilled with her victory. She is a talented and hardworking young athlete and we will give her our full support in the pursuit for her to become the best tennis player she can be,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mikaela said she was grateful to have had the opportunity to train at the academy and compete against other best players in the world.

She said she hoped to give her best by working hard and make Malaysia proud.
