Umno Election Committee receives complaint on ethical violation
SHAH ALAM - The Umno Election Committee (JPU) 2023 has received a complaint about ethical violations committed by a potential candidate.
Its chairman, Tan Sri Shahrir Ab Samad said that the complaint about the candidate's misconduct, which has allegedly violated Umno's constitutional code of ethics, was received despite the fact that the registration process has not yet begun.
"Even though we have explained from the beginning that ethics will be an important aspect for every candidate this Saturday, a complaint has already been received about misconduct.
"Although this candidate has not yet registered, everyone knows that he or she wants to be a candidate.
"So, the decision on this misconduct will be expedited by the Umno Disciplinary Board," he said on the Umno Online portal.
Shahrir stressed that those who wish to contest should understand and comply with the ethics that have been outlined in the Umno constitution.
He explained that in the constitution, there is a section on ethics for members, and it is effective during the election period, which started on Feb 1.
"So, there is no reason for any candidate to deliberately violate this code of ethics. "We fight; we contest for positions in the party. So, as a candidate, we should already understand the party constitution.
"If one is not aware of this, it means he or she is not qualified to hold any position in the party," he said.
He added that the JPU will take action for any misbehaviour committed by the candidates for this election.
"There is no reason for candidates to commit any offences that are prohibited, especially those involving money, bribes, and so on.
"We will act decisively. In the investigation process, we will call the complainant first and then the person who committed the offence," he said.
