KUALA LUMPUR - A political party information chief may be charged in the sessions court, here, today over Jana WIbawa, a government programme to empower Bumiputra contractors in construction sector.

The MP who carries the title Datuk was called to give a statement at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office on Monday.

The anti-graft agency also arrested a chief executive officer (CEO) of a company to aid in investigations on Jana Wibawa.

Both were detained at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya on Monday before being brought to court for the indictment.

On Monday Sinar reported that several Letter of Acceptance (SST) were issued through a project under Jana Wibawa involving family members of key leaders of certain political parties.

Law Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Siad stated the MACC has yet to identify the true value of the project.

Jana Wibawa was introduced under Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's administration to boost Bumiputra contractors income post Covid-19.

The government was reported to simplify the method of implementing the Jana Wibawa project through pre-qualification tenders or direct negotiations for immediate impact to be felt by the economy and individuals.
