KUALA LUMPUR - Perikatan Nasional (PN) expects more leaders from the coalition to be part of what it deems 'selective prosecution'.

This followed Bersatu Information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan being brought before the Sessions Court on Tuesday over two charges of soliciting and receiving bribes worth RM6.9 million involving the Jana Wibawa project.

Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the selective prosecution was aimed towards building negative perception of PN ahead of the State Elections.

"Yes it is expected that many PN leaders will be involved in selective prosecution. I see it as leaning more towards selective prosecution. This is in preparation towards the state elections, of course it has something to do with what we are able to do and so on.

"Even the public accounts committee (PAC) case is done, it has been discussed one by one, but the perceptions continue to be built on such things.

"Supposedly when it is organised, we ourselves (the Parliament) have established the PAC, we should have given the mandate. We appreciate the PAC's decision," he said to reporters at the Parliament lobby, here, on Tuesday.

Ibrahim said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should not make early speculations and instead surrender the powers to the investigative committee.

"When the prime minister makes an early perception, that causes an incorrect wave. If there is a case we will submit it to the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission," he said,

PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in a press conference at the Jalan Duta Court Complex on Tuesday claimed the party had fallen victim to selective prosecution after Wan Saiful was accused of bribery worth RM6.9 million.

He explained politics required funds to perform party activities and even the constitution allows contributions from members, the public and individuals supporting the party's struggles.

Muhyiddin claimed that Pakatan Harapan (PH) and BN also received funds from supporters and he questioned why their leaders were not charged in court.
