MACC detains Wan Saiful's officer

PUTRAJAYA - An officer to former Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the arrest was made following the allegations made by the individual that MACC had offered RM10 million to Wan Saiful in exchange for a statement against former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

"He was arrested after he was asked to be present at the MACC headquarters at 3.30pm on Wednesday to provide a statement," he said in a press conference on Op Tropicana operation, here, today.

He said investigations were made in accordance with Section 48 of the MACC Act 2009 for disrupting the investigations.

"Although an apology has been made, I personally will not forgive people who tarnish MACC's reputation with outrageous claims," he said.

He said the statement made by the individual had caused the public to make negative speculations towards the anti-graft agency.

"This matter could not be erased. (Individuals) everywhere will still believe that such things exist," he said.

Asked about the development of the case against Muhyiddin, Azam said the agency was still in the process of completing the investigations.

He said the investigation papers will be submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers AGC) once they were ready.

He also declined to comment on whether the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman was among the suspects in the Jana Wibawa project scandal.

Azam said the MACC was preparing three to four investigation papers for the case.

On the allegation that MACC had conducted selective investigation and prosecution, he stressed that the commission was carrying out its duties professionally without being a tool of any political party.

"Investigations are made based on the complaints and information received, if they contain elements of an offence under the MACC Act, investigations will be carried out," he said.
