Michelle Yeoh takes home Best Actress award at the Screen Actors Guild Awards

Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh’s lucky streak continues as she wins another prestigious award, this time for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Becoming the first Asian woman to win a leading film acting award, the Ipoh-born actress beat fellow nominees such as Cate Blanchett, Ana de Armas, and Danielle Deadwyler.

Yeoh bagged the award for her impeccable performance in “Everything Everywhere All at Once”, which has earned her several accolades recently.

“I think if I speak, my heart will explode. SAG-AFTRA, to get this from you who understand what it is to get here.. every one of you knows the journey, the roller coaster ride, the ups, and downs.

“But most importantly we never give up. I thank you.. This is not just for me, this is for every little girl who looks like me,” said an emotional Yeoh during her speech.

She added: “Thank you for giving me a seat at the table and tonight you’ve shown us that it is possible. I’m grateful and my mum will be eternally grateful to all o you.”

Previously, Yeoh took home Best Actress In a Musical or Comedy Motion Picture at the 80th Golden Globe Awards.

She has also been nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars, which is set to happen on March 12.

“Everything Everywhere All at Once” is a film that sits on the premise of surreal parallel universes and also stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Ke Huy Quan, Jenny Slate, and more.
