IPOH - The eldest son of former Pasir Salak member of parliament Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, Dr Faizal Tajuddin, has confirmed that he will run for the Pasir Salak Umno division chief in the coming party elections.

Faizal said the nomination form had been sent to the Pasir Salak Umno division office last Sunday.

He said the decision was made after receiving former division chief Tajuddin's approval.

"Yes, I can confirm the matter and I also submitted the nomination form yesterday. We will wait for the official list later.

"Actually, this decision was made after getting the blessing of all those who want the Pasir Salak parliamentary constituency to be won again by BN (Barisan Nasional)," he said when contacted on Monday.

Faizal is currently the Pasir Salak division vice chairman and will face the division's deputy chief Khairul Azwan Harun who is also running for the same position.

Khairul Azwan was the BN candidate for Pasir Salak Parliament in the 15th General Election (GE15) and failed to defend the seat when he lost to Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Jamaludin Yahya in a four-cornered fight with a majority of 5,003 votes.

On Sept 30, the Umno Supreme Council Meeting decided to suspend Tajuddin's membership for six years, thus preventing the veteran leader from defending his party position at the divisional level.
