S'wak to study possibility to allow SMEs to use home address to register business

Deputy Sarawak Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who is also the state’s Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment, noted that there has been a rise in the number of SMEs operating online from their home.
"We want to study this in detail, not just on the home address, but on what type of business can be conducted from the home,” he told a media conference after chairing the Sarawak Entrepreneurs Development Coordinating Committee, or SEDCC, here today.
Awang Tengah said his ministry has received guidelines on working from home from the state’s Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives.
In the short term, he said his ministry has agreed to allow space in business premises or entrepreneur incubator centres under government agencies to be used as addresses for SMEs.
This will make things easier for them to register their business and subsequently get help from the state government, he added.
Sarawak has about 89,000 registered SMEs based on last year’s census.-Bernama
