Muhyiddin does not need to step down from party post, says Bersatu youth

KUALA LUMPUR - Bersatu youth say Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin does not need to step down as party president after being charged for abuse of power and corruption.

Its chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said the four corruption charges faced by the Pagoh MP were selective prosecutions.

“We want Muhyiddin to remain as Bersatu president and Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman.

“It was selective prosecution (placed on him),” he said at a press conference after delivering a policy speech for the Armada Annual General Assembly, here, today.

Yesterday, Muhyiddin was in Sessions Court, here, on six charges of corruption totaling RM232.5 million and illegal money laundering totaling RM195 million.

He was charged as an official of a public body namely as the prime minister and Bersatu president using his position for bribes totaling to RM232.5 million from an individual Azman Yusoff, 51 and three companies, Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, Nepturis Sdn Bhd as well as Mamfor Sdn Bhd for the party’s allies between March 1 2020 and Aug 20, 2021.

The former prime minister was the third Bersatu leader charged in court for criminal charges after party's former information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan and Segambut Bersatu division deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad.

On Feb 21, Saiful was charged in court for asking and receiving bribes amounting to RM6.9 million involving Jana Wibawa project worth RM232 million last year. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Adam Radlan on the same day was charged on two counts of bribes of RM500,000 involving Jana Wibawa project.
