SHAH ALAM - Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) decides to retain Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as president despite corruption charges.

In a statement, Bersatu's secretary-general, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, said the supreme council meeting (MPT) held today strongly rejected the resignation of Muhyiddin as its president.

"This is because MPT insists that the charges against Muhyiddin were made on his position as Bersatu president and not in his personal capacity," he said.

He also urged all Bersatu members and supporters to be patient and calm in facing a big test against the president and the party with slander and cruelty.

Hamzah also congratulates Bersatu's new wing, Srikandi Muda, for successfully holding their first convention today.

On Friday, Muhyiddin was charged with six counts of corruption and money laundering involving RM427.5 million.

The 76-year-old Bersatu president became the second former prime minister to be charged in court for corruption in the country's history.

For the corruption charges, Muhyiddin could be jailed up to 20 years and fined five times the money solicited or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction
