SHAH ALAM - All corruption charges against Bersatu are ‘made-up’, says former Bertam Assemblyman Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq.

Khaliq, who is a criminal lawyer by profession, said the government was "so afraid" of Perikatan Nasional that they were doing whatever they could to tarnish the coalition's image.

Voicing out his support for Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, he said the eigth prime minister had never been involved in any corrupt practices.

"To me all the corruption cases that we have been bombarded with are all made-up.

"We will see at the end of the day Tan Sri Muhyiddin has never been involved in any corrupt practices and let the law take its due cause.

"Whatever that has happened to my party president, we are fighting it out in court.

"I believe at the end of the day justice will prevail," he told Sinar Daily in an episode of Politically Frank this week.

On March 10, 76-year old Muhyiddin was charged with four charges involving abuse of power over a RM232.5 million bribe and two charges of receiving RM195 million which were proceeds from illegal activities.

On March 13, Pagoh MP was again charged at the Shah Alam Sessions Court where he was accused of one count of receiving RM5 million that were proceeds from illegal activities.

He then filed an application to strike out the charges on April 18 and later on April 27, he filed four separate applications to transfer his cases to the High Court on grounds that the cases involved complex legal issues relating to the Federal Constitution.

On May 26, the prosecution seeked that four charges on abuse of power and three charges of money laundering to be jointly heard in the same trial at the Sessions Court.

Meanwhile, Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan has been charged with soliciting and accepting bribes in relation to the Jana Wibawa initiative. He has filed an application to strike out the charges on grounds that they are defective.
