SHAH ALAM - Umno leadership and representatives need to give a chance to young leaders to be appointed as the Supreme Council (MKT) member.

Former Umno Youth exco Datuk Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin said the party needed to change in order to remain relevant and increase the people's confidence in them.

"I ask that 18 out of 25 Umno MKT members picked are candidates who are under the age of 55 so that there will be changes in Umno and it's not merely rhetoric.

"Each representative who competes at the divisional level, whether the chief or deputy chief, must agree to fill in 70 per cent of MKT with young leaders," he said in a statement today.

Muqharabbin said there are still some old leaders competing in all the positions even though there has been changes in the Umno leadership, and it has led to Umno being perceived as less relevant by maintaining the old faces.

He added that new and brave leaders will give hope to the party as they would not be shy to seek advices from old members.

"There are still few leaders who have been in MKT from the time when Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad still wanted to compete. How is it possible for the people to see Umno as relevant and is changing.

"I ask to vote and give a chance to new candidates capable of bringing change to the party," he said.

Muqharabbin hoped that young leaders would be given the opportunity to together strengthen the party in order to regain the people's trust.

"This is an important platform for me to bring ideas, criticise, be criticised and implement various plans to regain the people's trust in Umno," he said.
