Teacher loses RM123,350 while attempting to buy a Smart Tag

KUANTAN - A teacher in Maran loses more than RM100,000 after attempting to purchase a Smart Tag offered on Facebook.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said he received the report from a 54-year-old man on Tuesday.

He said the victim found the Touch ‘n Go sold for RM80 per unit while browsing on Facebook.

“The victim dealt with the suspect and keyed in his information on a website given for the payment process.

“The victim keyed in two bank details however it failed to go through. After checking his account the victim found 16 transactions were made in both accounts causing a RM123,350 loss,” he said in a statement on Friday.

He advised the public not to be easily swayed by non-existent sales and not to download applications from questionable or non-legitimate sources.

“The public is advised to check accounts and phone number on the https://semakmule.rmp.gov.my/ before making any transactions,” Ramli said.
