IPOH - Several 'old-timers' who had once led Umno at the state division level have failed to make a comeback as they were defeated in the party election that took place today.

Among those leaders were former Bukit Gantang Umno chief Datuk Rosli Husin who lost in a three-cornered fight to new leader Mohammad Sollehin Mohamad Tajie.

Apart from Rosli, Mohammad Sollehin who had obtained 261 votes, also defeated incumbent Mohd Kamaruddin Abu Bakar who got 236 votes.

With the victory, Mohammad Sollehin was among the Youth leaders in the pary who had won in this election.

The division deputy chief post was won by Shamsul Alias in a three-cornered fight with 263 votes.

Tambun Umno Youth chief Faridzul Azlan Abd Shani received a different fate when his attempt to win the Tambun Umno chief post had failed as he had lost to incumbent Datuk Aminuddin Md Hanafiah.

Meanwhile, Datuk Mazlan Abd Rahman and Zakaria Mohamed had respectively won for deputy chief and vice chief post.

In Tapah, Ayer Kuning state assemblyman Ishsam Shahruddin had defended the Tapah Umno chief position after he was challenged by Datuk Samsudin Abu Hasan who once held the position.

Perak government exco who is also Lintang assemblyman Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Ibrahim remained as Sungai Siput Umno chief after defeating Mohd Husnuz Zaim Mohd Padil.

Mohd Zaidi Aziz also defended his Tanjung Malim Umno chief post in a two-cornered fight after gaining 208 majority vote.

Likewise, Datuk Hang Tuah Din remained as Gopeng Umno chief after he defeated his contender Datuk Hamzah Kassim, who once led Umno in Gopeng.

In the Umno election this time, several divisions in Perak showeno competition for Umno division chief post, namely Bagan Datuk, Lumut, Lenggong, Ipoh Timur, Ipoh Timor, Batu Gajah and Padang Rengas divisions.
