Khaled Nordin remains, Mahdzir fails to defend vice president post
KUALA LUMPUR - Padang Terap division chief Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid failed to defend the Umno vice president post that he had held since 2018 based on unofficial results.
He is in seventh place with only 14 votes as of 11pm.
Meanwhile, Kota Tinggi member of parliament (MP) Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin who is also the incumbent, managed to retain his post with 64 votes.
Today's election also saw Pahang Umno chairman Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail steadily leading with 67 votes.
Further, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani also secured the vice president post with 52 votes despite contesting for the position for the first time.
Additionally, the only female candidate in the competition for the party's third-highest post, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said came in fourth place with 35 votes.
Meanwhile Kepala Batas MP Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican only received 27 votes, while Simpang Renggam MP Datuk Seri Hasni Mohamad only garnered 20 votes.
Iskandar Puteri Umno member Mohd Yusof [email protected] did not receive a single vote.
The race for the Umno election for the term 2023–2026 had begun after the registration period for candidacy officially closed on Feb 26.
The Umno election ends today with Umno divisional delegates meeting as well as committee election and Umno Supreme Council member election.
