Husband and wife deny trafficking their OKU daughter

BUTTERWORTH - A husband and wife have pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court, to the charge of trafficking their disabled (OKU) daughter for the purpose of sexual exploitation last January.

The accused Salleh Ali, 63, and Siti Aida Ismail, 40, made the confession after the charges were read before Judge Noor Aini Yusof.

According to the charge, the couple were accused of trafficking their 20-year-old daughter, who has a learning disability card, between January and Feb 14.

They had allegedly committed the offence at a flat in Desa Wawasan, Jalan Tembikai at Bukit Mertajam around 6pm to 10pm.

The two accused were charged under Section 14 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 (Act 670) read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code which carries a prison sentence of up to 15 years and a fine, if convicted.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Qatrin Nada Harun did not grant any bail and the two accused were not represented by lawyers.

The court allowed both accused to be bailed at RM15,000 with one surety each.

Additionally, the court also imposed an additional condition where they have to report to the nearest police station every month as well as handing over their passports to the court.
