SHAH ALAM - Security guards in the country could easily be involved in corruption due to lack of knowledge on integrity.

Kawal Wiramas managing director Khaidzer Kedah said there were some security guards who considered acts of corruption as merely receiving gifts from someone and not something inherently wrong.

“Security guards who take care of condominiums would for example let anyone into the premises with only a box of cigarettes without taking down their vehicle registration number and the passengers among others. Such acts could jeopardise the safety of residents.

“They may not consider it as an act of corruption and merely a gift. This would occur as the guards did not understand and lacked knowledge to identify the forms of corruption,” he told the Rasuah Busters recently.

Commenting on the security services industry, Khaidzer said from his friends’ experiences, there were money being stolen due to the untrustworthy attitude of a few workers in the industry.

“I speak generally, but sometimes the usage of regular storage boxes could enable those to take funds without it being noticed.

“Many of my friends in the industry said the money they carried could reach RM300,000 but the amount became RM5,000 less upon arrival,” he said.

He urged Rasuah Busters to cooperate with those in the industry to spread the anti-corruption message and work together towards #MalaysiaTanpaRasuah (a county without corruption).

“If possible a module could be presented for this certification for security guards to understand corruption and its forms,” he said.
