Couple killed in pile-up hours after attending relative's funeral
SETIU - A five vehicle pile-up at Kampung Selamat, Sungai Tong, here resulted in the death of a husband and wife, who were on their way home from attending a relative's funeral.
Setiu district police chief Deputy Superintendent Afandi Hussin said the pair along with their child had left the town to return to Kuantan when they were involved in the accident.
“The victim’s son Muhammad Daniel Dzulkarnain, 13, was seriously injured and is now being treated in Setiu Hospital,” he said when contacted by Sinar on Sunday.
Afandi advised road users to remain cautious while driving to avoid such accidents.
Faizul Azman, 44, and his wife Habsah Ismail, 44, had died on Saturday while their son was injured at the accident on Kilometre (KM) 46, Kampung Selamat, Sungai Tong.
The accident which happened around 1.17pm involved a lorry, two multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) a Proton Exora and a Toyota Wish, with a four wheel drive Nissan Navara as well as a Perodua Axia.
The pair in the Proton Exora died at the scene due to their injuries while Daniel was sent to Setiu Hospital.
Habsah uploaded her last status expressing her sadness towards the death of her brother in-law on Facebook 12 hours before the accident.
“You left on the best day and month, may you be placed with believers. My condolences for his family, no more joking around and laughing with everyone, Abang Gie is always in our thoughts, he would always wait for us if we were heading to Besut, Allah please provide heaven for my brother in law, amiin,” she posted on Facebook.
Habsah and Faizul’s Facebook were filled with condolences from family, friends and acquaintances over their deaths.
