SHAH ALAM - Several political leaders in the unity government have been appointed to top management positions in federal statutory bodies.

Most recent of those was Umno Wanita Chief Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad, who has been confirmed today as the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority (Risda) chairman.

Yesterday, Risda’s official Facebook account uploaded a congratulatory poster on the appointment, but was deleted soon after.

However, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed Noraini’s appointment in a press conference after holding a working visit to the Penang Regional Development Authority (PERDA) Headquarters, today.

Risda is a federal statutory body under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry and was established on Jan 1, 1973 with approval of the Parliament.

Meanwhile, on Friday, a letter of notification of the appointment of three political leaders to lead an agency under the Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development Ministry went viral on social media.

They are the PKR Workers' Bureau Chairman who is also a former Kapar MP Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid as the National Tekun Board (Tekun) chairman while the Hulu Langat MP Mohd Sany Hamzan was appointed as his deputy.

Former United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) president and former Sabah Chief Minister Tan Sri Bernard Giluk Dompok was appointed as SME Corp chairman.
