LRT passengers' right to sue Rapid Rail, Prasarana over 2021 crash, says Loke

JOHOR BAHRU - The Transport Ministry respects the decision of eight LRT passengers who filed a lawsuit amounting to RM860,000 against Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd and Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana).

Transport Minister Anthory Loke said the victims have the right to sue in line with the principle of democracy practiced in the country.

"I respect their right to take any action. It's up to them so I can't comment any further.

"What I want to say is that we sympathise over the incident," he said in a press conference after launching MyBAS unlimited passes and Johor's first electric public bus at Larkin Terminal Station, here, today.

Also present was Johor Public Works, Transport and Infrastructure exco Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh..

On Monday, it wasreported that eight LRT passengers had filed a lawsuit amounting to RM860,000 against Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd and Prasarana at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on March 9.

They claimed to be involved in an incident where two LRT Kelana Jaya line trains collided causing several passengers to suffer injuries at 9.15pm on May 24, 2021.

The passengers were Tengku Amalie Tengku Alauddin Shah, 47; Marvena Jitol, 28; Riezariel Haeqal, 23; Rozita Che Rus, 28; Ng Siow Nee, 36; Siti Nuraliah Hashim, 26; Nurul Athirah Mohd K Jabayee, 36, and Muhammad Firdaus Mohd Saleh, 35.
