SHAH ALAM - The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has guaranteed that there would be sufficient supply of chicken and eggs in the market throughout Ramadan and ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season.

According to the ministry, a joint engagement session was held with several parties to ensure that the issue of supply and prices of goods could be dealt with holistically.

Among the parties involved were the Finance Ministry, Agriculture and Food Security Ministry, Veterinary Services Department (JPV), Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) as well as the producers represented by the Federation of Livestock Farmers Associations of Malaysia (FLFAM).

"Producers through FLFAM have given assurance that there will be sufficient supply of chicken and eggs throughout the fasting month and ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

"They also expressed their commitment to cooperate with the ministry to deal with any issue of supply disruption by immediately sending supplies to any locality experiencing it," the ministry said in a statement.

In another development, the ministry said a total of 183,047 inspections were carried out on chicken and egg supply traders with 2,711 of them found selling above the control price, failing to comply with the price marking and other offences.

Following that, the ministry encouraged consumers to act as the government's eyes and ears by reporting non-compliance of the supplies distribution.

"The ministry is taking every action to deal with the unreasonable price increase issue to ensure consumers can comfortable buy supplies during Ramadan and the upcoming Hari Raya celebration," he said.
