KUALA LUMPUR - Umno Youth will find a solution to facilitate the application process to become Umno member.

Its leader, Dr Akmal Saleh said this is because the existing process makes it difficult for people to join the party, especially the youth.

"There is a proposal to review the process of application and make it a more simplified method. We need not practise the old ways of sending forms and getting stamps.

"We will find a solution by utilising new technology to make it easier for young people to become Umno members," he said in a press conference after a meeting with Umno Youth here today.

Akmal also said, in order to increase the support for Umno, they will be focusing on school students and university students.

He said the attendance and training bureau will be responsible for managing the matter.

"It is known that you can vote when you are 18 years old, so our young (school) students can be voters in the 16th General Election (GE16). This is our target," he said.

He explained that every programme organised will go through the process set by the university and school.

"As leaders, we can not break the law just to enter. We have to be creative, but how? It is for our bureau to decide.

"Youth isn't about breaking the law. We want to enter properly so we can establish a good relationship between youth and the university and school," he said.

Akmal said the party's youth wing also agreed to re-establish the law and public complaints bureau to listen to the people's voice.

"As long as it is the people's voice, the Youth Bureau will remain consistent in bringing the people's voice to justice," he said.

He added that the party's wing also decided to appoint members under the age of 25 for all Umno Youth divisions.

"It is mandatory to appoint at least one person under the age of 25," he said.
