KUALA LUMPUR - Umno Youth today burned the Israeli flag to show solidarity with Palestinians during the Solidarity Rally with Palestine at Masjid Jamek, Kampung Baru.

Its chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said the action was symbolic of the atrocities committed by the Zionist regime against the Palestinian Muslims recently.

"We have never recognised Israel as a country.

"Since we can't go there, we express our anger by doing this (burning the flag) to show that our solidarity with Palestine will never fade," he said in a press conference outside Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru today.

He also said, following this rally, Umno Youth will mobilise its grassroots to hold similar rallies across the country.

"We will do these solidarity rallies all over Malaysia, at every level of the division," he said.

Additionally, Umno Youth will also take further action by sending an official protest letter to Foreign Ministry on Monday, next week.

"This is to bring attention to the matter at the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) level and then the United Nations (UN).

"We urge all Muslim countries to unite against the violence and tyranny that the Zionist regime had done to our fellow Muslims in Palestine," he said.

On Wednesday, Israeli police had attacked dozens of Muslims in the prayer hall of Al-Aqsa mosque in a pre-dawn raid.

At least 12 pilgrims were injured and around 350 other worshippers were arrested from this raid. The violent activities at West Bank and Jerusalem (Baitulmaqdis) had been increasing since last year and became worse during Ramadan when the Muslim's holy month had clashed with two religious festivals for the Jewish and Christian.

Palestinians had condemned the Israeli attack and described them as criminals.
