Keep away from 'weird' websites promising breaking news

SHAH ALAM - How do you identify fake news?

While the passing of political leaders or celebrities makes headlines, some are taking it a step further by using names of legitimate news companies such as Sinar Daily to woo readers to their website on Facebook.

Of late some websites have been using Sinar Daily's logo on their photos and links, with headings such as the tragic end for former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Dr Mahathir, 97, is healthy and is still active in politics.

However, how to spot the real from fake?

Unknown names such as Water Fally as seen at the top of the link used Sinar Daily's name at the bottom to woo readers to a different website.

While the genuine Sinar Daily's website has Sinar Daily's logo in red at the top with information to Read more on www.sinardaily.my, weird websites may take you to irrelevant websites to sell their products.

We advice readers to keep away from "weird" websites and to click on genuine Sinar Daily's postings as seen on the right side of the photo above.

Sinar Daily has been in touch with authorities to stop unknown websites from using the name of our website.
